Tile is the default flooring in South Florida for good reason: it shrugs off humidity, stays cool underfoot, survives sandy beach-day traffic, and never warps the way wood can in our climate. But a tile floor is only as good as the substrate beneath it and the hands that set it. Lippage, hollow spots, cracked grout, and tiles that pop loose are almost always installation failures — not material failures. Most Boca Raton homes are slab-on-grade, and concrete slabs move and develop hairline cracks as they cure and settle. If tile is bonded directly to a cracking slab, the crack telegraphs straight through the tile. We install a crack-isolation or uncoupling membrane in the right situations to break that bond, so slab movement never reaches your finished floor. In wet areas we add full waterproofing beneath the tile, not just around the edges.

Flat floors come from flat substrates. We assess and correct the slab’s flatness before setting a single tile, because large-format porcelain — now the most requested look — is unforgiving of dips and humps. Using the right trowel, back-buttering technique, and tile leveling system, we achieve full mortar coverage and minimal lippage even with 24x48 planks. The result is a floor you can run a hand across without catching an edge.

A Boca Raton couple recently asked us to replace dated 1990s tile across their entire first floor with large-format wood-look porcelain. We removed the old tile, ground and leveled the slab, installed an uncoupling membrane over the worst cracks, and set the new plank tile in a staggered pattern with a tight, color-matched grout. The finished floor reads like seamless hardwood but will never swell in our humidity.
